Whare Kea Hut trip

Awesome hut, complex and interesting terrain, so why my first and only poor rating that I felt compelled to write.Travelling from Canada we took the time to explain to Aspiring guides our goals, experience and fitness levels. We were assigned a guide wholly and totally out of his league in terms of fitness and ability to move around on skinning equipment. While his knowledge of the snow issues was quite good his fitness or lack thereof totally limited our ability to access terrain on the 2 days of the 4 that allowed us to venture out. In addition, his attitude lacked good guide manners or decorum. When these issues were brought to the managers of the company they were less than helpful and seemed to dismiss our issues, Bottom line DO NOT TRUST this guiding service if you need to use a guide that they select for you.

Top Companions

We did two trips with Aspiring Guides into Upper Wilkins River and Top Forks Hut and another trip to Plateau Hut at Mount Cook.

These trips were amazing and getting deep into the terrain the greatness of the nature really gets under your skin.

The planning, communication and overall execution of the trips were proactive, fast and constructive. Even as we had to change plans along the way solutions and suggestions were in focus.

Carla, Michael and Martin should make it on any operator’s dream team. They were engaged, knowledgable and always cared for safety first.
Their passion for guiding made our trip extra special.

Highly recommended as a guiding company.

I had a great day ski touring of the back of Treble Cone Ski field. The weather was fantastic and better than forecast. Great conditions and Jimmy my guide was very experienced both in reading snow conditions and with knowledge of the area and which aspects would be good to ski.
Awesome day
Thanks Alpine guides.

My husband and I had an awesome day touring off the side of Treble Cone. We were provided with good insight into how the snowpack has been this year and felt comfortable with all the decisions made together on the day. Would love to do a multi day trip when I'm not pregnant!

Remarkables day trip
Written: Aug 19, 2017 | Event date: August 2017 | Source: tripadvisor.com
My mates and I went on a single day backcountry tour in the Wye Saddle/Wye creek out the back of the Remarkables on 16 August 2017. It was 3 days after a storm that delivered 30cm of fresh snow. While the resort was tracked out days before our guide took us to some stashes where we found some fantastic fresh turns. Some of my mates had not been in the backcountry before and the guide was very helpful in showing them how to use the Alpine Touring gear and skins. He also conducted a quick training session on avalanche safety gear. We had a truly fantasitc day with Andre.

Awalanche Awarenss

Really enjoyed the course with Aspiring Guides. We covered a lot of information in the prep evening, but it never felt rushed or too much to take in. Bronwyn, our guide for the course, was very helpful and allowed everyone time to ask questions and give our interpretation of what was being discussed. The field day at Cardrona was a great way to put the evening's theory into practice. Again we were given plenty of time and help to get to know and use the equipment and the rescue scenarios were informative and fun. This was a really enjoyable course and the knowledge I learned and shared with the great group of people who participated will surely be invaluable in my future ventures into the backcountry. Aspiring Guides and Bronwyn delivered above and beyond of what I expected.

Avalanche awareness course

Worth the money! I didn't know anything about avalanches and this course was really helpful understanding the risks that could be up there! This was just a basic course but still a lot of important information that everybody should be aware of. Thank you again!

4-day avalanche course & AMAZING ski touring at Rob Rosa hut
Written: Aug 5, 2017 | Event date: August 2017 | Source: tripadvisor.com
How can I say enough about this experience?

The prep: great company communication; excellent gear advice; prompt answers to queries; patience and lack of sales pressure in organising dates; on-premises briefing, equipment check & food prep the evening prior to departure.

The location: OMG simply stunning backdrop. The private Rob Rosa huts are well organised and, well, very private. The 15 minute heli ride in was pure joy and anticipation.

The course: they delivered big time on avalanche knowledge including theory & practical; a relevant and succinct manual was provided (to keep), as well as a laminated map for each course participant; I learned much more than expected.

The food: basic (as expected) but plentiful; dietary requirements were requested and would certainly have been honoured although our group was decidedly unpicky.

The skiing: we were fortunate with 3 great weather days plus one snow/rain day in the middle that was firmly seized to deliver theory & practical; meaning that the fair-weather days were used for ski touring & on-mountain snowpack analysis from sun-up to sun-down, most of it on virgin powder. We summitted Mt Pisa on day 1 and the walk out on day 4 was extended to 12.5 km to achieve additional powder runs.

The guide: saving the best for last, it would be hard to imagine a more positive or motivated guide than Mark Evans. Mark, thank you for your thoroughness, your thoughtfulness, your focus on keeping us safe and imparting knowledge, but most importantly for your unbridled love of ski touring. "Power skiing is my favourite kiiiiiiiiiiiiiind of skiing!"

This course is not for the unfit, or for the beginning skier. However if you love nature, skiing, earning your thrills and taking responsibility for your own safety then I cannot recommend this course highly enough.

Amazing Experience!!

I took part in the one and half day avalanche awareness course with Aspiring Guides and learnt so much!! All the staff and guides are super lovely people, very knowledgeable and experienced, and I came away from the course with some awesome photos, very achy legs and most importantly a new respect for the mountains! The course taught me a lot about avalanches, and in the field we practiced things like safe travel techniques, recognising avalanche terrain, and the proper use of shovel, probe and transceiver in a rescue effort. I would highly recommend this course and the whole company for anyone wanting to experience the wild outdoors!
