Day 1: Winnipeg, Manitoba Arrive in Winnipeg, once a fur-trading post and boomtown for the Canadian Pacific Railway, today Manitoba’s cultural and commercial capital at the eastern edge of Canada’s vast prairies. Transfer to the historic Fort Garry Hotel, one of the city’s most prestigious landmarks. Meet your Expedition Leader at an orientation dinner this evening. You will be provided with your Arctic parka and boots, on loan for your Churchill adventure. Day 2: Winnipeg - Churchill Fly to Churchill on a private charter flight and explore this remote community on a guided tour with your Expedition Leader. Originally a fur-trading post, Churchill is home to just under a thousand people and, every autumn, to hundreds of polar bears that congregate at the edge of Hudson Bay. Head to the tundra this evening for your first glimpse of the bears. Dinner is served aboard the Polar Rover in heated comfort. Day 3: Helicopter & Dog-Sledding, Churchill An exciting adventure is in store today, with a memorable helicopter flight over the frozen tundra. You may see polar bears, caribou and arctic fox below. Landing on the tundra, disembark to explore on foot, perhaps taking a close look at an unoccupied polar bear den. Learn about the life of a dog-musher before heading out on an unforgettable dog-sled ride. Later, First Nations hosts will share their traditions and tales of daily life. These captivating storytellers will explain their personal histories and offer an insight into the vibrant nations that have flourished amid adversity in this harsh environment for thousands of years. You can also visit Churchill's Eskimo Museum, with artifacts collected from centuries of local habitation. Day 4: Polar Bears, Churchill Spend a full day on the Arctic tundra aboard a unique Polar Rover. With just 15 passengers, everyone is guaranteed a window seat for clear views of the polar bears. The bears gather here as they wait for the ice to solidify on Hudson Bay in order to begin the winter seal-hunting season, making close encounters very likely. Travel back to town this evening for dinner and a presentation on the wildlife or cultural aspects of life in the North. Day 5: Polar Bears & Northern Lights, Churchill A second day on the Polar Rover allows for further exploration of the subarctic scenery and its incredible wildlife. Tonight, if the skies are clear, you will visit a heated aurora dome in hopes of witnessing the northern lights. The Hudson Bay Inuit see the lights as the magical display of their ancestors’ souls dancing in the sky. Day 6: Churchill - Winnipeg After time to pick up some last-minute souvenirs in town, board the flight to Winnipeg for a final night stay. Day 7: Winnipeg After breakfast, transfer to the airport.
