Catalonia at Your Own Pace

Catalonia is in many ways a nation unto itself—proud, independent and rich with heritage. This is the land of Picasso, Dalí and Gaudí, who clearly drew inspiration from the strong culture and stunning surroundings that define this landscape: from the towering Pyrénées to volcanic flats, rolling pastoral hills and rugged Costa Brava. What a delight it is to experience this region’s diversity of flavours in tapas-sized servings, accompanied by a bold vintage, then settle into the comforts of a local auberge or lavish hotel, fully satiated from the day and abuzz with the prospect of what tomorrow’s ride will bring.

Day by Day

Following your arrival in Torrent, you'll be met by a B&R representative for a full trip briefing, bike talk and bike fitting so you are ready to take off first thing in the morning

This morning you'll cycle south to the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, which still retains its original charm. Enjoy the local market and Cork Museum before riding to the medieval village of Pals.

Today’s route takes you from the Baix Empordà to the Alt Empordà region, venturing through a large number of medieval settlements with narrow streets, past historic churches and by dramatic fortified walls. Later, ride by the sea to the lovely fishing village of L’Escala-Empúries, famous for its delicious anchovies.

Cross the Fluvia River to Sant Pere Pescador, choosing an on or off-road route onward to Castelló d'Empúries. Here you'll witness the striking cathedral, built to demonstrate the power of the Count of Empúries. You'll also have a chance to explore the scenic Jewish Quarter.

Ride to Figueres, the modern capital of the region. Here you'll visit the otherworldly Salvador Dalí museum before riding to Vilabertran, a beautiful town known for its magnificent Romanesque Abbey of Santa Maria. This afternoon you'll have the opportunity to visit local wineries and try their cava.

After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the train station in Girona, unless you wish to extend your stay in the city.
