Ancient is only part of the equation

Embrace Greek culture, history and hospitality and visit some of the most picturesque and important regions of the country. Our first stop is Athens, a contemporary city, combining the present and the past in a unique way. From there you will head to Peloponnese, one of the most important regions of Greece, rich in history and culture, tradition, ancient monuments quaint towns and stunning scenery. Peloponnese may be Greece’s mythical heart, but a visit here is not all about the ancients, the Peloponnese today is an unspoilt patchwork of dizzying mountains, deep gorges, green valleys and wildflower meadows. The further south you go, the fresher the air, the more splendid the isolation.

Day by Day

After your arrival, meet your guide for a short walking tour to discover and immerse yourself in the Athenian past. End your walk at a lovely restaurant with inspiring views of the Acropolis.

Visit Athens’ storied landmarks today including the Acropolis, Hephaisteion temple, Hadrian’s Library and the new Acropolis Museum. After lunch in the traditional neighbourhood of Plaka, you’ll head to Elati, a beautiful small village from which you’ll bike through the mythical forest of Mainalo towards Dimitsana.

Walk to the open-air Water Power Museum, a thematic museum centered on the hydraulic power used in traditional societies. Bike to a Monastery overlooking the Lousios River Gorge and enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before driving to Kardamili, a small bay and beautiful town on the south coast of the Peloponnese.

This morning we’ll drive to one of the mountain villages below the snowcapped Mount Taigetos, one of the tallest mountains in Greece. From here we’ll ride a series of mountain roads through several small villages to an amazing Byzantine Monastery where we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Kardamili.

Today’s ride begins right from the hotel and continues along a secondary coastal road with beautiful views on to the sea. We’ll end up in a small seaside village for lunch and some beach time before returning to Kardamili. This afternoon take part in a cooking class or head up the mountain for a short hike into Viros Gorge.

Take a short drive to Areopoli for a quick visit and continue on to Diros Cave, one of the world’s most beautiful caves located on the western shores of the Laconic Peninsula. Later, bike to Gerolimenas, a small historic port with a picturesque setting. Enjoy your hotel this afternoon or continue riding on to Cape Tainaron.

Drive up to the hills above Monemvasia, a small island separated from the mainland by an earthquake in 375 A.D. Today’s ride offers some challenging climbs but also some exhilarating descents on serpentine roads. Later, we’ll have lunch in the old town of Monemvasia and take a private tour of the city.

Catch the small ferry from Neapolis to the island of Kythera, the idyllic birthplace of Aphrodite. Hop on your bikes and head to Chora, the capital of the island, surrounding a 13thC Venetian castle before enjoying a final lunch in the nearby village of Kapsali. Spend the afternoon at the beach near the village of Mylopotas.
