Discover the Emerald Isles

Failté Romhat! The region of Connemara is steeped in history, with thousands of years of endurance and evolution recorded in the very landscape. The mountains dip down and level out into the lunar landscape of the bog, pocked with small lakes and golden ponds and all of this runs right into the Atlantic. The diversity of nature, coupled with the constantly changing weather, breeds a character all of its own, and this week will be full of such encounters. In the numerous villages and towns we’ll bike through, one can’t help but feel the true Irish welcome.

Day by Day

Dia daoibh! From Shannon Airport, you'll be driven to County Galway. On a walking tour, you will begin to discover Galway, a very "Irish" city, steeped in history, that is fast becoming a mecca for bohemians and romantics. This afternoon you'll take a leisurely ride along the shores of Cashel Bay before arriving at your fairy-tale castle accommodation

Following a hearty breakfast, you'll catch a ferry to the island of Inishbofin. Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and seals! You'll walk around the Iron and Bronze Age remains, spot a crumbling Cromwellian Fort and learn about the Spanish Pirate who was once stationed there.

You'll ride out to the charming port of Roundstone, where you can stop to visit a bodhran (a traditional Irish drum) workshop. This afternoon can offer more spectacular biking or a leisurely horseback ride on Ballyconneely beach before you return to your castle.

If you opt for an early start, you will have the chance to explore Kylemore Abbey, the only Benedictine community in Ireland before you arrive at the Killary Sheep Farm where you'll see sheep herding in action. Lunch will be a seafood feast with shellfish farmers Kate and Simon Kennedy.

Today you’ll ride along Loughs Mask and Corrib through Joyce Country. Experience firsthand the incomparable mix of dramatic sweeping vistas and rolling pastures as you venture to the charming village of Cong. This afternoon will give you the chance to explore your second castle hotel before a final Irish dinner.

After breakfast this morning you’ll be driven to Shannon Airport where you’ll bid slán abhaile (goodbye) to your guide and board your outbound flight.
