Highlights of the Luangwa Explorer

The Luangwa Explorer does just what it says…  we’ve selected intimate luxury bushcamps (just 4 rooms in each camp) and the unique Mfuwe Lodge which sits overlooking an oxbow lagoon. All offer great personal service and knowledgeable professional guides in an untouched and unspoilt destination.

  • We’ll take a short flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe Lodge – 18 chalets with private decks, swimming pool and bush spa. All meals and game drives included. The main focus of the safari is on the walking trails around and the bushcamps – don’t worry, if walking isn’t your ‘thing’ we’re flexible and can arrange game drives for you instead, groups are so small we can tailor the safari to suit you
  • we’ll stay 3 nights at Chamilandu Bushcamp in a prime river location. The camp has just three stilted chalets under an ebony grove
  • 3 nights at Bilimungwe Bushcamp a little gem of a camp hidden under vast mahogany trees.  The spacious thatched stilted chalets have views over one of three watering holes.  A lovely spot for sundowners followed by an outdoor boma dinner
  • we return to Mfuwe for our last night at the lodge.

Best time to visit the Luangwa

  • Luangwa is a year round destination. Prices vary according to which season you choose (see tips and notes below)
  • Early June and late September into October  – avoid the crowds
  • September and October – best time to see game but it’s very hot during these months
  • The rains arrive in November.
