Most international visitors arrive in Lapland through the town of Kiruna, a 1.5 hour flight from Stockholm. In Jukkasjärvi near Kiruna is the world famous Icehotel, where visitors can enjoy a wide variety of events and activities throughout winter. Dates: Contact us for further information. Day 1     Arrive in Kittilä and transfer to Rajamaa. The transfer takes approximately one hour. Dinner will be served at the restaurant. Day 2     Breakfast will be served at the hotel. Collect a packed lunch. Enjoy a guided walk through the wintry landscape to learn more about the rare nature of Lapland. Tracks of birds and animals in the snow, trees and bushes adapted to the harsh climate along with other nature phenomena of the Taiga, will be described. Enjoy lunch by a flaming log fire in the forest, before walking back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. Day 3     Breakfast will be served at the hotel. Transfer by minibus towards the Pallastunturi National Park in Finland, where you will meet a professional musher and his huskies. You will given proper instructions in how to handle dogs, sledges and equipment as you prepare the sledges and set out for a tour about 20 km. The packed lunches will be eaten by the fire. Return to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant. Day 4     Day at leisure. There are options to try driving a snow-mobile or rent a pair of skies. Dinner at the restaurant. Day 5     After breakfast you will prepare the sledges and set out for a whole day tour. Lunch will be eaten along the trail, inside or outside depending on the weather. The dogs will pull you through the Lapland forests, over frozen lakes and rivers. In the late afternoon after some 40-45 km, you will reach the log-cabin where you will spend the night. Dinner will be prepared in the wilderness. Day 6     After breakfast prepare the sledges and start the way back through the wintry landscape, you may even see reindeer or moose along the trail. Lunch will be eaten along the way. After another 40-45 km the dogs deserve some rest and attention. We will say good-bye to our musher friend and return to Rajamaa for the sauna and dinner. Day 7     After breakfast, transfer by bus to Peltovuoma in Finland to meet the Eira family. This Saami family lives in between modern life and an ancient form of rein-deer herding. You will get to hear about the rare culture, the history and today’s work with the animals. Jouni Eira will show you how he works and you will drive out to where the herd is moving. Enjoy lunch before transferring back to Rajamaa. Dinner at the restaurant.
