Best time to self-drive in Namibia?

Namibia is a year round destination – Pick up this exceptional journey any day of the week at any time of year.

  • May to December – Best time for game viewing in Etosha. The weather is very hot but if you can stand the heat the game viewing is excellent!


Day 1 - WindhoekStaying at the Olive Grove Guesthouse, take delivery of your 4x4 self-drive hire vehicle, Toyota Hilux double Cabin or similar with zero excess. Breakfast.
Day 2 - SossusvleiDrive to Sossusvlei (red dunes) stay 2 nights in Namib - staying at the Desert Homestead with breakfast.
Day 3 - SossusvleiSee the red dunes opt for a hot air balloon ride over the dunes.
Day 4 - SwakopmundDrive to Swakopmund. Stay at the elegant Swakopmund Guesthouse, a 5 minute walk from the beach for 2 nights.
Day 5 - SwakopmundWe recommend the Walvis Bay Dolphin and Sea cruise with fabulous seafood snacks, oysters and champagne or quad biking on the dunes.
Day 6 - Skeleton CoastDrive up the Skeleton coast as far as Damaraland and Camp Kipwe.
Day 7 - DamaralandBook a morning game drive at the lodge for sightings of Springbok, jackal and rare desert dwelling elephants
Day 8 - Etosha National ParkLeave Camp Kipwe. Stop off at Twyfelfontein and view the 6,000 year old rock engravings. Drive to Dolomite Camp (approx. 5 hours)
Day 9 - Etosha National ParkLeave Dolomite Camp head east to Okaukuejo Camp staying at the famous Okaukuejo waterhole.
Day 10 - Etosha National ParkEnjoy a full days driving in the Etosha National Park, head towards the Halili Rest Camp for lunch, Etosha Look out post for views of the Pan and on to Mushara Bush Camp.
Day 11 - OkonjimaLeave Mashara after breakfast for a 3-4 hour drive to Okonjima Plains Camp, home of the AfriCat Centre.
Day 12 - DepartLast day in Namibia. Visit the AfriCat Centre to see the rescued leopards and cheetahs. Drive to the airport approximately 3 hours
