On this exceptional itinerary we enjoy a combination of vehicle safaris in the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater and trekking ascents of Mount Meru (4566m) and Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m). In the Ngorongoro Crater prepare for unsurpassed game viewing as many species of East African wildlife, including rhinoceros and large prides of lion, inhabit it. We spend time on the vast Serengeti savannah where herds of plains animals, including migratory wildebeest, can be seen. Our trek guides lead us on an ascent of Mt Meru, a steep and demanding climb and an ideal way to acclimatise for Kilimanjaro. The steep ridgeline ascent has spectacular views and the slopes of Mt Meru are home to a large wildlife population including elephants and mountain reedbuck. Fit and acclimatised, and in the company of our experienced guides and crew, we then follow the relatively remote Rongai Route on Kilimanjaro, fondly known as Kili. We are aiming for spectacular sunrise views from the summit of Africa. This fabulous walking itinerary offers the opportunity to climb two of the best extinct volcanoes created by the East African Rift.
