Before ascending the highest peak in Africa, we will glimpse the highlights of Tanzanian wildlife on a superb safari. The world famous Ngorongoro Crater is considered the “Garden of Eden” of Tanzania in terms of game viewing and we spend a day doing just that. Other highlights while on safari include huge herds of elephants in Tarangire National Park and abundant birdlife at Lake Manyara. You will then be excited and ready for the challenge ahead. The sight of the permanent snow-capped peak of Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), fondly known as Kili, provides a constant source of inspiration when viewed from the vast plains below. While the ascent does not require any technical climbing, the trails are demanding and a sound level of fitness and an ability to acclimatise are essential pre-requisites before attempting the summit. The Rongai Route begins in attractive farmland and delightful forest, with the opportunity for viewing black and white colobus monkeys, and passes through several different climate zones. This route retains a sense of unspoilt wilderness and offers a different perspective on Kilimanjaro by approaching it from the north east. From the alluring summit of Uhuru Peak (5895m) we will have amazing 360° views of the surrounding plains. This all-encompassing itinerary concludes with a trip to the white sand beaches of Zanzibar - an ideal way to relax and celebrate the end of an unforgettable adventure.
