The Kwando safari circuit is one of the best value-for-money safari options in all of Botswana. Kwando has two huge private concession areas, the Kwara concession on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta, and the original Kwando concession along the Kwando River, in the far north. Both areas are prime game viewing areas and well known for regular wild dog sightings.
The safari is based on spending 6 nights at two or three of Kwando's best camps - the brand new Splash Camp in the Okavango Delta, and Lebala Camp as well as Lagoon Camp on the edge of the Kwando River. You can either spend 2 nights at each or, for a more relaxed itinerary, consider spending 3 nights at Splash followed by 3 nights at Lagoon Camp (or vice versa).
The pricing of this safari excludes the flights, but the itinerary is based on using Maun as a start point and end point. You can also fly in or out of Kasane, if you want to combine this safari with Victoria Falls, for example.
Day 1: Arrive in Maun where a representative will meet you and assist with check-in for your short, scenic flight to Splash Camp in the Okavango Delta. Flights costs are listed separately on the rates sheet.
Splash Camp is one of our favourite safari camps in the Okavango Delta. Brand new and exclusive, this tented camp offers some of the best game viewing opportunities in all of Botswana. Situated within the private Kwara concession on the northern edge of the Delta, guests at Splash can enjoy a variety of activities, including open vehicle game drives (both off road and at night), interpretive bush walks, guided mekoro trips, motorised boat cruises and even fishing. Splash is a high-end end lodge that represents the best of what the Okavango Delta has to offer, yet the price is very reasonable compared to some of the other top lodges in the area. Spend 3 nights at Splash.
Day 2-3: On safari at Splash. The daily program at the lodge revolves around your choice of activity and will be explained to you upon arrival. A typical day includes at least a morning activity and an afternoon activity. After sundowners, enjoy a night drive with spotlights to look for nocturnal animals before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Day 4: Final early morning activity before checking out after breakfast. You will be transferred to the Kwara Airstrip where you will board your scenic flight to Lagoon Camp, further north. Check in at Lagoon Camp and enjoy a light lunch before heading out again on an afternoon game drive or boat cruise.
Lagoon Camp is a luxury tented camp in the north of the Kwando concession, overlooking a side channel of the Kwando River. The views from the lodge are stunning, and each tented unit is built right on the edge of the water. Lagoon Camp offers boat cruises as well as 4x4 game drives through some of the most scenic, unspoilt wilderness areas in Botswana. Predators are abundant in this area, and the region is known as one of the best areas to see wild dogs.
Day 5-6: On safari at Lagoon Camp. Daily morning and afternoon game drives are conducted by expert guides. Early morning is usually the best time to go out on a game drive. During the afternoon you can either enjoy another action-packed game drive or take a more relaxed sunset cruise on the Kwando River, where you are likely to see plenty of elephants, hippos and other wildlife.
Day 7: After a final early morning game drive, it is time to check out and board your flight back to Maun (or Kasane) where you can connect with your onward flight.
Flights: All inter-lodge flights are excluded from the cost and listed separately to comply with legislation (see price list by clicking on the rates link at the top of this page). Air transfers are conducted by Moremi Air using light aircraft like the reliable Cessna. This means a strict weight limit of 20kg per person in soft bags applies (15kg plus 5kg hand luggage).
These scenic flights are very safe and typically fly at low altitudes, offering magnificent views over the bush and waterways of Botswana.
The itinerary can be customised to your exact requirements.
