Please leave your contact details and enter a short description of your dream adventure and we will forward your request to this travel company and 2 more industry expert companies that organise best trips in Namibia. They will be in touch with tailored proposals within three working days.
This is an ideal tour, especially for first timers to Namibia, as it gives you an excellent overview of some of this country's most popular and spectacular highlights. You also have the benefit of small groups and your own dedicated, expert guide.
Departures are guaranteed, minimum one person, maximum of seven people per safari. These tours depart on a Tuesday and finish the following Thursday. (No tours depart between January and mid-February).
Please ask about departure dates.
You’ll be collected from your guest house or Windhoek International Airport (if arriving before 08h00). Setting off in a safari vehicle with your own private guide, you’ll head southwest through the scenic Khomas Hochland highlands, down the Great Escarpment into the vast Namib Desert below, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. Towards mid-afternoon, you’ll arrive at Sossus Dune Lodge, your home for the next two nights. Activities include exploring the Sesriem Canyon and towering Sossusvlei red dunes with your guide, enjoying sunset drives and guided walks, or simply relaxing and enjoying the tranquil desert views from the lodge.
Up early, you’ll head for the Namib Naukluft National Park with your guide before sunrise to see the dunes in the soft, shadowy morning light. These are some of the highest free-standing dunes in the world. Your guide will share insights on how this desert was formed and how the incredible variety of curious creatures, plants and wildlife have adapted to these fierce conditions. You’ll enjoy a picnic brunch under a shady camel-thorn tree with the option to explore Dune 45, Elim Dune, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. You’ll return to the lodge for a late lunch. If you haven’t already managed it, a trip to Sesriem Canyon is on the agenda or some leisure time at the lodge.
[Optional sunrise balloon safari over Namib-Naukluft and Sossusvlei Dunes. You may also opt to take a scenic flight via light aircraft over the dunes and along the historical Diamond Coast to Swakopmund rather than the road trip. Both these activities need to be pre-booked and involve an additional cost.]
En route to Swakopmund, you’ll witness the ever-changing vistas of this captivating land, including the Gaub and Kuiseb canyons. Passing through coastal Walvis Bay, you’ll continue northwards to Swakopmund, a popular German-style seaside resort that enjoys cooler coastal air. You’ll have time to explore the town and waterfront before dinner at a popular local seafood restaurant. A centrally-located guesthouse in Swakopmund will be your accommodation for the next two nights.
After breakfast, your guide will drive back to Walvis Bay for an unforgettable kayaking adventure where you have every chance of seeing Cape fur seals, dolphins, pelicans, flamingos, numerous seabirds – and hopefully, whales, turtles and sunfish.
You’ll also take a short drive to Pelican Point and its lighthouse. Light refreshments will be enjoyed on the beach. If you prefer, you may opt for a motorised boat trip instead of kayaking, enjoying snacks of fresh oysters washed down with local sparkling wine!
You’ll have the option to explore Walvis Bay’s waterfront area before returning to Swakopmund for an afternoon at leisure at your guesthouse or around the town. A host of activities can be booked at an extra cost: camel rides, scenic flights, quad-biking, dune buggying, tandem or solo skydiving and more. Swakopmund is known as the ‘adventure capital’ of Namibia.
Heading off to the northeast today, you’ll encounter diverse, dramatic Damaraland. Passing Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg (2,573 m), you’ll be able to view wildlife and take in the vast expanse of scenery. This ancient wilderness area is characterised by incredible displays of light and colour; rugged, flat-topped mountains; intriguing rock formations and odd-looking vegetation.
Time permitting, you’ll visit the prehistoric Twyfelfontein rock engravings (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of Namibia’s key national monuments and the geological phenomena of “Burnt Mountain” and “Organ Pipes” (or they’ll be saved for tomorrow’s highlights).
Next two nights are at Camp Kipwe, a luxury desert camp within easy access to the local attractions. Each thatched bungalow has an open-air, en-suite bathroom. There’s an inviting pool and a sociable campfire at night. Dinner is often al fresco.
After early breakfast, you’ll go on an exciting 4x4 game drive to explore the river valleys and search for wildlife, including the famed desert-adapted elephant. There’s an option to stop for a picnic lunch en route, and visit the local attractions if you haven’t already done so. Once you return to camp, you may have time for a guided nature walk or simply enjoy some well-deserved downtime.
Another early start, you’ll set off for the world-renowned Etosha National Park, via the scenic Grootberg Pass. En route, your guide will take you to visit a local Himba settlement (if any of these semi-nomadic people are in the area) where you can get a glimpse into their intricate, age-old customs, traditions and way of life.
You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the way, reaching Andersson’s Camp late afternoon/early evening to enjoy this unusual, historic camp with its floodlit active waterhole set in the private Ongava Game Reserve.
You’ll enjoy a full day’s exciting game viewing in Etosha National Park from your private open safari vehicle as you traverse to the eastern section of the park. Etosha is home to 114 mammals and over 340 bird species. You’ve every chance to see elephant, lion, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu, gemsbok (oryx), zebra, cheetah, leopard, hyena, honey badger and warthog and the endangered, endemic black-faced impala.
With a lunch stop at Halali, a rewarding game viewing area, you’ll leave the park late afternoon and head to the Onguma Tree Top Camp in time to freshen up and relax before dinner. This camp also has a floodlit waterhole where you’ll see a wealth of game coming down to drink at all hours of the night and day.
Onguma has thatched rooms with peel-back canvas walls to maximise the views. All units are en-suite with outside showers and your own private viewing deck.
You’ll spend the morning on guided game drives in Etosha, returning to camp for lunch and a siesta. The afternoon game drives will be on the private Onguma Game Reserve, getting to Fischer’s Pan in time for sundowners. Return to camp to freshen up and enjoy your final safari dinner looking out over the floodlit waterhole – where you’ll hopefully see one of the newest members of the Onguma family – black rhino.
Leaving early, you’ll travel south via Tsumeb, Otavi and Otjiwarongo to the Okonjima’s AfriCat Day Centre, the final highlight of a truly memorable safari, in time for lunch, before going on an informative game drive through the centre. After which, it’s back to Windhoek by late afternoon where you’ll be taken to your accommodation or to Windhoek International for your onward flight.
You may extend your safari for another night or two at Okonjima Bush Camp. This luxury safari camp gives you an in-depth look into the amazing work being done by the AfriCat Foundation as well as having the opportunity to view many more cheetah, leopard and other big cats in the wild. Please ask us about rates and procedures if you’d like to enjoy this option.
