Big fun in a small package

Uruguay is a discreet but exquisite blend of beauty, simplicity and luxury. Start in the heart of the capital and work your way east to explore the still-virgin countryside and wind-swept white-sand beaches. From the undulating green of “Uruguayan Tuscany,” with its vineyards blanketing the hills, to Punta del Este, a shining, glass beacon of South American summer, to Jose Ignacio, a simple yet sophisticated hamlet on the Atlantic coast. The decadent beaches, the elegant countryside, a deep respect for culture, a love of gastronomy and the warmth of the people make it hard to believe that so much can be packed into such a small place, which is exactly why we love Uruguay.

*This trip is best enjoyed during Uruguay’s summer season—see “Best Time to Visit” for details.

Day by Day

Get to know the history and architecture of old Montevideo on a walking tour through town. Sample some of Uruguay's famous barbeque for lunch, then cycle along La Rambla, the city's scenic shoreline path to the hotel.

Begin your day with a decadent olive oil tasting outside Pueblo Eden, complete with gorgeous views. Cycle towards lunch at Viña Eden winery, accompanied by a local Tannat Reserva. Tonight, watch the sun set into the Uruguayan countryside over dinner.

Weave along quiet roads to the Atchugarry Foundation—the workshop of prominent Uruguay sculptor, Pablo Atchugarry (if he's around, we'll watch him work on these mammoth pieces). We then ride to lunch at one of the country’s most iconic wineries.

Visit Casapueblo, the whimsical former home of artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. Then, take off riding along the coast of Punta del Este, stopping for lunch on the shore.

Begin at the Bodega Garzon, one of Uruguay’s fastest-growing wine producers, and cycle scenic roads to the sleepy town of Garzón. Lunch is on the beach at La Susana, right next to your next hotel and luxurious boutique retreat, Bahia Vik.

Keep your eyes peeled for birds and other wildlife today, as we pedal through the forest trails of the Natural Reserve in Maldonado province. Enjoy a special picnic lunch in the forest, then meander back to the hotel by your choice of bike, kayak, or van.

Enjoy the morning on Playa Mansa before making your way to Montevideo for your departure. There are plenty of ways to extend your stay from here, ask us for more details!
