Rwanda was recently named no. 3 in the top 10 hottest new travel experiences of 2016 by Lonely Planet.
This is no surprise, Rwanda is gifted with a vast culture, a number of primates and is a home to some of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorillas thanks to the Dian Fossey.
Dian Fossey was an American zoologist, primatologist, and anthropologist who undertook an extensive study of mountain gorilla groups over a period of 18 years. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially encouraged to work there by anthropologist Louis Leakey. Her 1983 book, Gorillas in the Mist, combines her scientific study of the gorillas at Karisoke Research Center with her own personal story. You will be able to hike to Dian Fossey’s grave at only a fee of $75.
