A Date with Mount Elgon Experience the beauty and variety of trekking up Uganda’s most famous mountain.
Mountain Elgon is a 4,321m extinct volcano, which in pre-historically stood taller than Kilimanjaro does today. It first erupted 24 million years ago. Spectacular scenery is the main attraction for hikers on this undemanding mountain with a variety of forest monkeys, small antelope, elephants, buffalo and about 300 bird species not recorded elsewhere in Uganda.
|Day One||Entebbe – Kampala||Arriving at the airport you will be warmly welcomed by a Churchill Safaris representative, and transferred to your hotel in Kampala. An optional tour of Kampala and the surrounding areas can be arranged for interested parties.||Your Accommodation|
|Day Two||Kampala – Mountain Elgon||Drive to Mountain Elgon, stopping in Jinja to visiting the source of the Nile and Bujagali falls, arriving in Mbale in the afternoon.||Mbale Resort|
|Day Three||Mountain Elgon||Drive to Budadiri park headquarters to begin the 4 hour hike walking through slopes of montane and bamboo vegetation, and arriving at the Sasa River Camp in time for lunch.||Sasa River Camp.|
|Day Four||Mountain Elgon||After breakfast, continue to ascend through landscape of extraordinary moorland vegetation. The climate and vegetation often changes with altitude until you arrive at the Mudde Cave.||Mudde Cave|
|Day Five||Mountain Elgon||After breakfast, proceed to Wagagai, the highest peak. You will have spectacular views of rare high altitude vegetation and the Jackson summit. Many photo opportunities.||Mudde Camp Site.|
|Day Six||Mountain Elgon||Today you will trek from Mudde Cave to the Caldera and the hot springs, a journey of three hours. From the caldera, continue to Hunter’s Cave Camp, a three hour trek.||Hunter’s Cave Camp.|
|Day Seven||Mountain Elgon||If you are keen about exploring more, you would proceed to the famous Tatum Cave with ancient cave paintings, a trek of two hours.||Tatum Cave Camp.|
|Day Eight||Sipi Falls||Trek from Tatum Cave Camp to the Park headquarters about 4 hours and later transfer to Sipi Falls and take a walk to the caves on the opposite side of the falls. Sipi Falls is lovely to behold and is where the Sipi River gushes down a steep 50-metre (160 foot) cliff. You can even enjoy a swim at the base of the falls.||Your Accommodation|
|Day Nine||Sipi Falls – Kampala||Depart for Kampala arriving in Jinja in time for lunch. Relax in the afternoon, and later transfer to Kampala for the night.||Your Accommodation|
|Day Ten||Entebbe||This morning you will go for a city tour and later transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home.|
A 4×4 vehicle with viewing hatch and driver will be provided for all trips and journeys.
