The safari begins at Gorges Lodge on the edge of the Batoka Gorge with spectacular views on the Zambezi River. We will then experience an exciting 6 day wildlife safari in Hwange National Park, famous for its large elephant herds and diverse variety of wildlife. Game drives, Bush Walk,  Bush lunch, sundowners, visit to local villages and school, game-viewing on the Elephant Express rail car are some of the activities during our stay in Hwange. The safari is ending with 3 nights in Zambezi national park, along the Zambezi River to enjoy various water and land based activities as well as a guided tour of the mighty Victoria Falls.This group tour is hosted by Thierry Cellier, The Heritage Safari Company. Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 1: Arrival Victoria Falls 14 Sept 2019

    Upon arrival into Victoria Falls Airport, you will be met and transferred by road transfer to Gorges Lodge, where you will stay for one night. Gorges Lodge is a 22 km road transfer from Victoria Falls and a 19 km road transfer from Victoria Falls Airport. The Gorges offer the most exquisite views and are well worth the effort of travelling. The lodge is situated on a natural outcrop overlooking the Batoka Gorge, some 200 awe-inspiring metres above the mighty Zambezi River cutting its way downstream after falling 111 meters down the Victoria Falls.

    Accommodation consists of 10 stone thatch chalets. 4 of the chalets are double storey and the other 6 are single storey both with private verandas that provide stunning views. The chalets are set in an indigenous garden and have en suite bathrooms with showers, mosquito nets, overhead fans and tea and coffee making facilities. The main lodge is built on stilted decking, crafted of indigenous hard wood and has a lounge, dining room and bar that all offer extraordinary views right over the gorge into Zambia.

  • DAY 2: Victoria Falls ~ South Hwange NP 15 Sept 2019

    Today your Zimbabwean safari experience begins. Here you will embark on your road transfer to Camelthorn Lodge situated in the South Eastern corner of Hwange National Park ( 4 hours) – drinks and snacks will be provided enroute.
    After welcome drinks and a short orientation settle in to your beautifully appointed forest villa and freshen up.  Late afternoon game drive by Land Rover into Hwange National Park ending up at our unique Look Up blind at Stoffie’s Pan for sundowners and canapés and the truly remarkable close encounters with wildlife that are a feature of the Look Up. Night drive back to the lodge and then enjoy a 3 course dinner beneath a blanket of stars under the Camelthorn tree.

  • DAY 3: South Hwange NP 16 Sept 2019

    Wake up to the abundance of bird life in the area while sipping freshly brewed coffee or tea and later enjoy either a light continental or delicious cooked breakfast in the lodge area. Embark on your game drive vehicles for Ngamo Village 15 minutes from the lodge for a very special morning that gives guests a chance to experience a real and unchoreographed interaction with villagers

    The visit culminates in a tour of the school and a singing performance  by some of the  children followed by a class interaction where children have an opportunity to meet guests and vice versa.

    Return to Camelthorn for lunch and a short siesta before a game drive on the Ngamo Plains in Hwange National Park, stopping for sundowners on the plains sipping cold drinks and enjoying snacks while our experienced guides  share their love and knowledge of the bush with you.
    As the sun goes down head back to the lodge to freshen up before dinner.
    3-course dinner will be served in the main lodge area before retiring to your luxurious villa.

  • DAY 4: South Hwange NP 17 Sept 2019

    Early morning tea or coffee and then guests pack day packs for a full day trip into the park with a picnic and siesta under the trees at Mfagazaan Pan.  Leisurely afternoon game drive back to the lodge going from pan to pan, weaving our way between the throngs of jostling elephant that come pouring in for the fresh water. It makes for a fun, memorable and extremely rewarding day. Showers or bubble baths and then enjoy pre-dinner campfire drinks before an authentic African 3-course dinner is served

  • DAY 5: North Hwange NP 18 Sept 2019

    After a delicious cooked breakfast, drive 10 minutes to Ngamo Siding and embark on the Elephant Express rail car for a slow ride up the railway line game viewing all the way to Impofu Siding. Cool drinks and snacks will be served on board to enjoy en route (about a 2-2.5 hour ride)
    Disembark from the Elephant Express at Dete Station and board Imvelo game viewing vehicles to take guests to Nehimba Lodge (2.5-3 hour game drive)  in the North-West of Hwange National Park, famed for its large elephant herds and variety of wildlife.
    Once at Nehimba, settle in and start to unwind as you take a seat overlooking the tranquil waterhole in front of the lodge and enjoy the African rustic charm that surrounds you.
    Relax with sundowners as you watch the game come down to drink in front of the lodge and the heat starts to subside for the day as the sun dips below the horizon.
    A 3-course delectable bush dinner will be served out under the African sky near the lodge waterhole
    After dinner, there will be a night drive on offer around the concession to spot nocturnal species that are just starting their ‘day’.

  • DAY 6: North Hwange NP 19 Sept 2019

    Guests will pack day packs and head out with their guide for game drives and walks, exploring this beautiful Northern part of Hwange National Park. The north is distinctly different from the southern part both in topography, habitats and species of wildlife.  Stop off at the Nehimba Seep for a mid-morning tea break. The seep is an ancient source of water once used by the San Bushmen historically as well as being a place where elephant still dig for water and minerals.
    Return to the lodge for a leisurely lunch and then siesta or perhaps relax by the lodge swimming pool, frequented by Hwange’s thirsty herds during the dry season.
    Later in the  afternoon, head out on a game drive within the park, ending with cool refreshments and canapés at sunset over one of this areas famed waterholes.
    Back at camp our guests can enjoy a relaxing bath or shower to freshen up before a 3-course dinner in the main lodge area followed by reliving the day’s safari around the campfire and later fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush around you

  • DAY 7: North Hwange NP 20 Sept 2019

    Early morning tea or coffee on your private deck followed by a hearty breakfast in the main lodge and then board a game viewing vehicle to drive to Mandavu Dam for a picnic lunch (2 hours)
    Mandavu Dam is situated in a scenic hilly spot only 15-kilometres from Sinamatella Camp and is a wonderful location for both bird watching and game viewing.
    Return to the lodge in the afternoon and relax on the deck overlooking the waterhole with sundowners.
    A delectable 3-course dinner will then be served followed by coffee or a night cap around the campfire.

  • DAY 8: Zambezi NP 21 Sept 2019

    After a last walk in the Hwange wilderness, enjoy a hearty breakfast and then embark on your road transfer to Zambezi Sands on the banks of the thundering wild waters of the Zambezi River, inside Zambezi National Park (5 hours). 3 hours of this transfer takes place in the National Parks and is the perfect opportunity to view game along the way. Drinks and snacks will be provided en route.
    Settle into your luxury tent and then relax on an evening sundowner drift near camp watching the game come down to drink and the unsurpassed beauty of the a Zimbabwean sunset.
    Later enjoy a superb 3 course meal on the main lodge deck while listening to the Siansimba Rapids in front of the lodge, before retiring to your tent and falling asleep as the river rushes past.

  • DAY 9: Zambezi NP 22 Sept 2019

    Start your day with tea or coffee on your private deck followed by a tasty breakfast overlooking the Zambezi on our main deck under the Ebony trees.
    Then it’s off to the Victoria Falls, approximately a  one hour road transfer away.
    A guided tour of the Victoria Falls and rain forest is a highlight –  “The smoke that thunders” is a special experience for even the most seasoned safari goer. A packed lunch will be provided.
    Guests also have an opportunity for some shopping to collect gifts to take home.
    Return to camp for afternoon tea and a short siesta followed by a game drive within the park stopping to enjoy sundowners on the banks of the Zambezi River.
    Head back to camp to freshen up with either a steamy bath or al fresco shower.
    Enjoy your 3 course dinner in the main lodge area right in the heart of the African bush.

  • DAY 10: Zambezi NP 23 Sept 2019

    Enjoy early morning tea or coffee on your private deck overlooking  the river followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the main lodge. Pack day packs and head out with your guide for a game drive and walk, exploring this beautiful part of the national park.
    Stop off at one of our picturesque picnic spots for a delicious packed lunch and siesta before taking a slow drive back to the lodge in the afternoon. Once back in camp relax for an hour or two in your private splash pool watching the game and birdlife on the river’s edge and in the evening head out on a game drive within the park, stopping for evening drinks and nibbles.
    Back at the lodge freshen up before enjoying a 3 course dinner in the elegant main lodge.

  • DAY 11: Departure Day 24 Sept 2019

    After morning tea or coffee on your private deck, explore the park one more time on foot, taking a guided early morning walk ending with a farewell bush breakfast along the river.
    On returning to the lodge, pack up & then a final road transfer back to Victoria Falls Airport (1 hour) for onward travel. B
