Beyond Mysticism in the Himalayas

Challenge yourself with a stunning high-altitude hike to the remote corners of Bhutan. Following the Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek for four nights, your gear is transported on horseback, leaving you free to soak in the incredible views and visit with the local mountain herders. Along the way, you’ll dive deep into the particulars of Bhutanese culture (including their philosophy on national happiness), learn Buddhist practices, discuss local legends, and find plenty of opportunity for your own meditation practice. You’ll leave having encountered some of the world’s highest summits and experienced a lunar alpine wilderness like you’ve never seen before.

Day by Day

Enjoy a relaxing night at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi in bustling Bangkok before catching an early morning flight the next day for stunning Paro.

Visit a little-known temple set on the cliffs above the Paro Valley. Dinner tonight is a tasty mix of Bhutanese specialties made largely from organic produce grown in the surrounding forest.

Get acclimatized with a hike to the Tiger's Nest, one of the most iconic and venerated Buddhist monuments in the Himalayas—the view from the teahouse is well worth the climb!

Your epic trek begins today; start with a two-hour climb toward stunning views of Genekha village. Then, continue to your camp for the night in Gur, set in a picturesque field of wildflowers.

Begin your ascent to the Paga Labtsa and enjoy views of Kangchenjunga and the spectacular Bhutanese Himalayan peaks. Pass yaks grazing in the meadows en route to the next camp.

Spend the day at your leisure exploring the Labatama valley. Tonight, we invite some of the local yak herders for tea at our camp and listen to tales of their bond with the mountains, yaks, and lakes.

Today's hike is challenging but rewarding! Climb along the side of Dala Tsho for more incredible views of the Himalayas. Descend to your final campsite in Tshokam for a total of 7-8 hours of trekking under your day's belt!

Today, you'll scale the Tsherimgang and then complete your trek in Chamgang. Tonight, a local expert is invited to dine with us to discuss the interesting philosophy of Gross National Happiness observed in Bhutan.

Set out on a four-hour trek along the ancient trails of the Thimphu and Punakha valleys. Visit the hamlet of Toep Chandana and learn about Lama Drukpa Kunley, the divine mad monk, and famous poet.

Hike to the Khamsum Yuley Chorten (stupa), set on a hill overlooking the Punakha valley—it's the perfect place to pause for a meditation! Take an afternoon lesson in clay tsa-tsa-building (an ancient Buddhist artform).

Visit the famous fertility temple, Chimi Lhakhang, to learn about Drukpa Kunley's unorthodox Buddhist teaching practices. Spend tonight enjoying the hotel's spa.

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll board your flight back to Bangkok and continue home.
