About the Activity:
Our meeting point is at Sathorn Pier (near Saphan Taksin Sky Train Station).
Avoid tourist crowds and get on an express taxi boat, one of Bangkoki's main transportation means, carrying passengers from suburbs into downtown for their work. Grab yourself a seat if you can find one, but better be fast. Along the Chaopraya River or known as River of King, you can start taking pictures of those 5 stars hotels like Pennisula, Mandarin Oriental or Shagrila etc as well as observing the harmony of Thai society which even though Thailand is a rich Buddhist country, there are churches, mosques and Buddhist temples standing next to each other in the same community.
Don’t leave Thailand if you have not tried Tuk Tuk. Want it fast want it slow? Tell your driver. Our warning is the more you laugh, the faster it goes! Just a short ride and soon, we will be at a unique temple Wt Prayun wongsa wat.In the temple there is a man- made Stone Mountain made into cemetery to keep ashes, built in the middle a pound where hundreds of turtle are living together with numbers of enormous fish. Buy a plate of fish ball or bread to feed the turtles to prolong your life as in Buddhism Turtle is a symbol of long life.
Stroll along the very small pathway, passing a small primary school in the old community, formerly Portugal quarter and visit Santa Cruz Church located on the Chaopraya river bank. Get pleasure from walking along the waterfront of river. Cannot be missed is an over hundred year-old Chinese Shrine. Be amazed with its antique wooden architecture. Gain some spiritual insights while watching people burning lot of incense, praying homage to their Chinese Gods and Goddess.
Next is Wat Kalayanamit,a beautiful but hidden temple of Thonburi which houses a magnificent astonishing gigantic Buddha image, Laung Po To(Big Buddha). Highlight of the day: Take experience the exhilarating James Bond long tail boat through the canals or klongs of Bangkok. Get a touch of oriental life style.
Get off the boat at Wat Rakang(Ra-kang means bell). Locally famous for a monk name Luang Po To, who had power over a hundred years ago until today is highly respected by many Buddhists both Thais and foreigners. There are many lot bells in the temple as Thai believe that if you get to ring the bells in this temple, it will bring you fame. So want to be famous? Before leaving the temple don’t forget to ring a bell there.
Continue the journey passing Patravadi Theater, owned by former Thai actress who converted her childhood house into an art school and theater for children. Stop at Talat Ta Wang Lang, a non-tourist market. Everywhere you see is FOOD. Squeezing with locals in this small market for it is an absolute chaos market, but highlighted with tasty food and colourful clothes.
Now it is lunch time (late lunch incld.). Take a break in a Thai restaurant on the river bank. Enjoy the view of Choapraya River as you enjoy your meal.
After lunch, get on a ferry crossing back to Bangkok side. Take a look at Amulet Market, or Talat Phra Kreung(Talat: market, Phra Kreung: amulet), always crowded with hundreds of people especially on weekends, offering and bargaining their prices for amulets and Buddha images.
End the tour with express boat back to Sathorn Pier.
