In 2016, we bought the piece of land on which the Pangolin Chobe Lodge will be built. We chose this location for 2 reasons. Firstly, the position of the land is possibly the closest to the park gates, as well as the jetty on the river from where you enter the Chobe National Park. This allows us to be among the first people into the park, and the last out every day. Secondly, the view from our position on the hill overlooking the Chobe floodplains is quite extraordinary. With the sun setting directly in front of the lodge, this location affords us some of the most spectacular sunsets in Botswana.
The Pangolin Chobe Lodge is under construction and is due to open in July 2018.
The Pangolin Chobe Lodge is situated on the hill above the town of Kasane, the gateway to the Chobe National Park. We are a three-minute drive from the newly rebuilt Kasane International airport and 15 minutes from the borders of both Zimbabwe and Zambia for road transfers from the mighty Victoria Falls, which is where most of our clients start their African photo Safari. Kasane airport is serviced by both SA Airlink and Air Botswana on a daily basis, with flights to and from Johannesburg. The flight from Johannesburg takes approximately two hours.
At the Pangolin Chobe Lodge, we have a total of 14 bedrooms. The bedrooms are configured as either double beds or two singles and all ensuite with the toilet and shower. Each of the rooms has a private balcony with spectacular views across the Chobe floodplains. The rooms are all air-conditioned with plenty of plug points and places to store camera gear and luggage.
The heart of the Pangolin Chobe lodge is the dining room, editing area, bar and pool terrace. The aim of the Pangolins Chobe Lodge is to have an inclusive elegant and relaxed atmosphere where you immediately feel like you are a part of a club. The walls are adorned with amazing wildlife images to inspire you, and there are plenty of places to relax and spend time with your fellow travellers. On the upper floor is the bar, with a table dedicated to editing and workshops. Below is a large dining area where we all eat our meals together at one large table. Leading on from the dining area is the pool deck. On certain evenings, we like to have a braai (a South African barbecue). This is a great way to enjoy the space as we utilise the whole of the pool deck and dining areas.
The Chobe National Park is probably one of the best reserves in Africa for wildlife photography. Not only can we enjoy our photography from land and water, but the animals tend to be far more relaxed in the Chobe and many other places.
The Pangolin Chobe Lodge will, of course, offer our signature activities on the photo boat, and our selection of custom-built vehicles including the mighty Unimog. Along with photographic activities, we also have several other boats and vehicles which can be used by clients not wishing to do photography specifically, but rather general game viewing instead. The choice is yours as to whether you would like to join the photo safari or standard game activity. The Pangolin Chobe Lodge is designed to be enjoyed by photographers and non-photographers alike.
