Day 1: fly to Gothenburg Fly to Gothenburg, make you way from the airport to the city centre and spend two nights in this vibrant city at Hotel Vanilla. Day 2: at leisure Enjoy sightseeing, shopping and exploring Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. A useful purchase is the city card, which gives you free entrance to many sights, attractions, museums and day trips as well as unlimited travel on trams, buses and boats. Day 3: Gothenburg - Ljungskile Collect rental vehicle and head north, visiting the island of Marstrand with the Carlsten Fortress, dating back to 1658, en route to Ljungskile. Spend two nights at the delightful Villa Sjotorp. Day 4: at leisure Explore the scenic island of Tjorn and the Nordic Watercolour Museum, the seaside resort of Lysekil with its Marine Life Museum (with an 8m long underwater observation tunnel) and the pretty village of Fiskebacksil backed by granite cliffs. Day 5: Ljungskile - Fjallbacka Continue north to Fjallbacka, stopping off to see a variety of wildlife at Nordens Ark, home to many endangered animals including snow leopards, Amur tigers, Amur leopards, wolves, lynxes, endangered birds and amphibians. In the delightful fishing village of Fjallbacka check in for three nights at the lovely harbour front hotel Bryggan Fjallbacka. Days 6-7: at leisure With Fjallbacka as a base there are a host of attractions to visit in the area. The remote Weather Islands, easily reached by a regular boat service, and the Koster Islands with their unspoilt beaches and marine national park, are definitely worth exploring. Visit the UNESCO site at Tanum for outstanding examples of Bronze Age art carved some 3,000 years ago. Enjoy a Seafood Safari in Grebbestad and enjoy mouthwatering langoustines, lobster, mussels and oysters. Day 8: depart Gothenburg Take a leisurely drive south to Gothenburg and return the rental vehicle. You can either return the car at the airport, which carries a one-way fee of SEK 680 payable on collection of the car. Alternatively, return the car to the central office and take the airport bus service (situated next to the car rental office) to the airport. Tickets cost SEK 95 one-way. Check in for the flight home. Notes
