Adventure and wildlife, all in comfort!

This accommodated overland tour will take you to some of the best highlights in Southern Africa. Game drive in the world renowned 'big 5' Kruger National Park and continue your wildlife adventure in Zimbabwe's Matobo National Park before experiencing 'the smoke that thunders', Victoria Falls.

This tour combines with our north-bound routes to Zanzibar or Nairobi and our south-bound route via Botswana and Namibia to Cape Town.

Day 1. Johannesburg to Hazyview Highlights. Shangaan tribal dancing . Accommodation. Hotel Numbi.

Leaving the buzzing city behind, we travel to South Africa's picturesque Mpumalanga province and the famed Panorama Route on our way to Hazyview on the outskirts of the central Kruger National Park.

Tonight we get our gear ready for a day out in the wild tomorrow and get to know our fellow travellers. 2 images Shangaan tribal dancing 3 images Hotel Numbi

Day 2. Kruger National Park Highlights. Kruger National Park, South Africa. Accommodation. Hotel Numbi.

Today we explore the wild! After breakfast we meet our local guides and board the 4x4's to Kruger. Our morning is spent seeking out the Big5 and other animals, birds and reptiles as we zig-zag across the rivers and paths within the park.

Kruger is home to over 505 species of birds, 148 species of mammals and many reptiles which we enthusiastically search for during the morning and afternoon. The impressive atmosphere of the park enables you to understand why it is held in such high esteem amongst explorers from all over the world who visit this park. We take a well-deserved lunch break en-route before game driving out of the park to our accommodation for the night.

Day 4. Tshipise to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Accommodation. Burkes Paradise.

This morning we cross from South Africa to Zimbabwe at the busy Beitbridge border - Africa's busiest land border. After border formalities, we make our way to Bulawayo where we stock up on supplies, and then head to our camp on the outskirts of town.

The Matobos area is very scenic with interesting rock formations and lovely views. We spend our first night in Zimbabwe under the African sky. 2 images Burkes Paradise

Day 5. Matobo National Park Highlights. Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe. Accommodation. Burkes Paradise.

The wind-sculptured Matobo Hills are the site of numerous Bushman paintings and the area holds a special cultural and spiritual importance to the indigenous people here. The reserve has the largest concentration of Black and White Rhino in Africa and, provided conditions are right, our guides will lead us on foot to some of the more concealed places in search of these magnificent animals. The park also has the densest population of leopard and black eagle in the world and we keep our eyes peeled high and low for these creatures.

The hills are also home to the grave site of Cecil John Rhodes who chose this as his burial place owing to the intense natural beauty and startling views from the hills. His grave can be visited at World’s View - a place of continual debate owing to his involvement in claiming the land and its people for Queen & Country in colonial times. 4 images Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe 2 images Burkes Paradise

Day 6. Bulawayo to Livingstone, Zambia Highlights. Livingstone Activities, Zambia. Victoria Falls - Mosi oa Tunya National Park, Zambia. Accommodation. The Zambezi Waterfront, Livingstone.

Moving on from Bulawayo we continue north, and pass through the town of Victoria Falls, before crossing the border into Zambia. We travel the short distance to the Zambezi Waterfront a few kilometres up water from the falls nestled on the banks of the Zambezi.

The Waterfront has a restaurant and small deck/terrace overlooking the river, and is a base and booking point for the numerous optional activities available in the area. Staff will give a full briefing on what can be booked (typically including rafting, canoeing, bungee, abseiling, gorge swinging, horse riding, scenic flights and river cruises).

Choose your activity at leisure, if time allows or else simply relax and enjoy the mighty Zambezi as it flows past your vantage point.

Additional Info

This tour departs Johannesburg early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of Livingstone and the surrounding area.

These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

Twin share accommodation with facilities (6 nights) some may be with bar or swimming pool.

24-seater, self-contained, custom-built safari truck with on-board tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, i-pod jack, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers and 4 x 4 safari vehicles.

In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

This is a participation and travels together with the camping counterpart. Your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.
